The Anne Bernstein Richan Peace Action Fund was established in memory of Swarthmore Friends Meeting member Anne Richan to honor her lifelong work for peace and mediation at all levels, from family and neighborhood through international.
The fund, created by Anne’s family, provides financial support for peace work that might not otherwise take place, in the belief that the greatest tribute to Anne comes through the work of others who pick up her torch and carry it the next mile.
Funding priority is given to new initiatives in peacemaking with the potential for long-term growth. It is hoped that this funding will enable someone with a creative idea to transform it from a spark into a vibrant light. Both individuals and groups are eligible for funding. Funding areas include:
- Action to promote international peace.
- Action to promote alternatives to violence in the nation, the community, and/or institutions within the community.
- Mediation to settle disputes within a community, among neighbors, and within families.
- Training in any of the foregoing areas.
Funding requests may be sent to the Anne Bernstein Richan Peace Action Fund, c/o Swarthmore Friends Meeting, 12 Whittier Place, Swarthmore, PA 19081. Requests may also be emailed to meeting@swarthmore.edu.
