Cooking for the Homeless

On the third Saturday of each month, Cooking for the Homeless provides hot dinners and take-away sandwiches for 130 guests at the Life Center of Eastern Delaware County in Upper Darby. It takes many hands to do the shopping, cooking, transportation and food service, and volunteers are welcome to participate in all phases of the project.

Cooking and sandwich making: 9:30 am to 1 pm at the Meetinghouse.

Transportation: Meet at 4:30 pm at the Meetinghouse to load food into cars and drive to Upper Darby.

Food service: 5:45 pm to 8 pm at the Life Center

Interested volunteers may sign up on sheets posted in the hallway by the kitchen, or contact the Meeting secretary.

From time to time, the Meeting presents concerts that benefit the Cooking for the Homeless program, including the annual  “Harmony for the Homeless” a cappella festival.

Cooking for the Homeless was started in 1996 by members of Swarthmore Meeting, Chester Meeting, and others. Donations to support the program are welcome and may be sent by check to Swarthmore Friends Meeting, 12 Whittier Place, Swarthmore, PA 19081. Please note “Cooking for the Homeless” in the memo field.
