Memorial Services

When a member of a Quaker meeting dies, the other members, family and friends gather for a Memorial Meeting for Worship.  At the beginning of this special Meeting for Worship one person usually describes the nature of the gathering, and invites those who feel so inclined to speak during the Meeting, sharing memories of the person who has died. It is a time to both share feelings of loss and celebrate the life of the departed person.

The members of the family are welcome to request special Scripture reading, music or poetry during the service. Following the service there is usually a brief reception.

Arrangements for memorial meetings are made by the Care & Counsel Committee, which can be contacted through the Meeting secretary.
