Listening to That of God in Ourselves and Others

In the first of two religious education sessions on Focusing, our member Nancy Saunders will lead us in considering this way of listening sensitively to spiritual messages arising from within our bodies. Nancy trained at the Focusing Institute in New York City. After nearly 30 years as a psychologist in private practice, she has come to believe that often the most healing approach to another person’s pain is simply to listen with sensitivity and compassion. The techniques of Focusing were developed by Eugene Gendlin, a professor of philosophy and psychology at the University of Chicago, based on his experiences attending Meeting for Worship at Pendle Hill, a Quaker study center in Wallingford.

The second session, on Dec. 7 at 11:45 a.m., will be devoted to supporting our ability to listen to others in a spiritually present and compassionate way. All are welcome.
