"Harmony for the Homeless"

Enjoy Some Great Harmony for a Good Cause!

The fifth annual “Harmony for the Homeless” concert, an A Cappella concert to benefit the Swarthmore Friends Meeting’s Cooking for the Homeless program, will take place on Sunday, February 28 at 3 PM in Whittier Room.

Three A Capella groups will sing - the Media Trolley Stoppers, Chaverim, and Sixteen Feet.  Chaverim and Sixteen Feet are collegiate groups.

All funds raised by the concert will be used to support the Meeting’s Cooking for the Homeless program, which provides meals to a homeless shelter located on the Philadelphia border in Upper Darby.  Once a month, volunteers gather in the Meeting kitchen to make a hot, nutritious meal for about 175 homeless people.  A second set of volunteers then takes the meal to the homless shelter and serves it there.

The Cooking for the Homeless program, which was started by the Swarthmore Friends Meeting many years ago, gradually spread to other congregations around Delaware County.  Now, about 30 churches and synagogues participate, each providing a nutritious meal once a month.

Everyone is welcome. The concert is free, but a donation of $ 5 for students and $ 10 for non-students is encouraged.  Refreshments will be served after the concert.
