"Friends of African Descent" moderated by Marcelle Martin

Our Forum at 11:45 am on March 5 will feature a visit from some members of the Fellowship of Friends of African Descent, whose purpose is to “support the spiritual nurture of Quakers of African descent and provide opportunities for the sharing of our concerns.”  They will speak to us about the minute they approved at their annual retreat in August 2016. This minute grieves the violence in our society against black men, women, and children.  It identifies deep roots of this: “The problems of racism, militarism and violence that we face are rooted in a deeper, less recognized sicknesses of materialism and greed.” The minute calls for support from Quaker bodies for four goals: “[W]e, as Quakers and as people of African descent call for the following”: 1. PEACEFORCE.  2. PEACE CENTERS.  3. COMMUNITY TRAINING.  4. DISARMAMENT.  Come to the forum to hear more about these four goals and to talk with Friends from FFoAD about how Swarthmore Meeting can lend support.
